Getting Things Squared Away

My wife took a picture of me working on the server getting a few things squared away. I am still getting used to the command line trying to figure out exactly what to do backups on and when. I have done a lot of work just to get this far and I might freak out if something were to happen, like a dead hard drive.

The garage situation is now final, I am going to move around things in my 1 car garage and do it at home. It would have been nice to start the project in a place with more room, but it is not practical to have it at a friends house.

Lazy Saturday

Today I am chillin'. I got to sleep in to about 9:30. So I am feeling great. My wife Melissa and I took a trip over to Daniel's VW to talk to Eddie about this project and just hang out for a bit. And while we were there I took a picture of the outside of his shop.

One of the things we talked about was the fact that I have no room at my house for this size of a project. Four bedroom house with a single car garage NICE.. So I am going to find a small shop or something to use for the resto. I hope I can find a place soon.

Oh well I am going to go pour a tall beer and try not to think about it for a bit.

Research..

Let the games begin! Well kinda...

I have started the the research part of this project. First off, break out all the VW old mags and books to completely confuse me. It's like going to buy paint for the kitchen. You go into the hardware super store and stand in front of the huge rack of color samples and your brain just locks up. You can get overwhelmed with all of the color choices knowing that whatever you end up picking will not be close to what you had in mind. However, if you pick a bad color it is easy to repaint. It might cost some time, but it is not going to break the bank.

Introduction

Plan

The plan for this site is to document the ground up restoration of my 66 bug.
I will be documenting every turn of the wrench blog style with pictures and videos. Building a restoration resource with as much detail as possible.

The Bug

The project bug is a 1966 bug with a slider moon roof. This car is in overall good working condition. However it is parked and has not been driven for almost a year. I have rolled it in and out of the driveway a few times during the summer to knock down the spider webs that seem to hold it to the ground. But other than that the car has not been driven.
